Technical Bulletin: HT19 and 1000w Lamps

February 3, 2005

As indicated in previous bulletins, we have undertaken a continuous evaluation program to insure that performance in Gardco and Emco luminaires of the reduced jacket (BT37 or E37) 1000W lamps meets our high standards. Recent tests have raised concerns involving the Gardco HT-19
luminaire when operated with the 1000 Watt reduced jacket (BT37 or E37) lamps. As a result, we are taking the following actions effective immediately:

1) Effective immediately, we are discontinuing HT-19 1000W Metal Halide and 1000W Pulse Start Metal Halide offerings as a precaution. These had been available in Type VS (vertical lamp) and Type 4X (horizontal lamp) optics only, and only with a sag glass lens.

2) Also effective immediately, we are adding the 875 Watt Pulse Start Metal Halide to the HT- 19. The wattage will be designated as 875PSMH. The HT-19 875PSMH will be available in all optic configurations, including those available with a flat glass lens and with a sag glass lens.

The 875 Watt Pulse Start Metal Halide provides superior lumen maintenance performance compared to 1000 Watt Metal Halide lamps, and may provide longer lamp life as well. These advantages become especially important in horizontal burning lamp configurations. Let’s look at published lamp manufacturer data for lamps burned in the horizontal position, and compare:

* Philips publishes 10,000 hours, but indicates in note that the lamp life is 25% less if the lamp is burned in the horizontal position.
** Lumens at 4,800 hours extrapolated for comparison based on published Lamp Life and Mean Lumens at 40% of lamp life.

Regardless of which manufacturer’s 1000 Watt data you compare, it is clear that the 875 Watt PSMH provides comparable light output at worst and higher light output at best. The comparison is even more favorable for the vertical lamp burning position.

At the same time the 875PSMH uses approximately 125 fewer watts of energy. That equals a $150 savings in electricity per lamp over the 12,000 average lamp life (based on $0.10 per KWH), or $55 per lamp for 4,400 hours, a typical outdoor lighting year!

The Gardco EH/H/HT ARM MOUNT Submittal Data Sheet has been updated to reflect this change and is now posted on our web site in pdf form. We urge you to go to www.sitelighting.com to access this updated sheet. Please destroy and replace any older sheets you may have as
soon as possible.

As part of our continuous improvement program we constantly evaluate all lamp options for Gardco and Emco products. This is just one small aspect of our dedication to maximized performance and maximized customer value inherent in all Gardco and Emco Lighting products.
